Today, we got to do some hands on activities. We were able to plant cacao trees, ginger, banana, gliricidia, sweet potatoes, and kukui nuts. It was a new experience for most of us and it became very messy but we had fun with nature.
We also learned about guilds. A guild is a selection of plants that work together to meet their needs. This is done through succession planning where it maps out the life cycle of each and every plant in this environment. The picture below is an example of a guild in a garden plan.

The picture above is an example of how we used the different levels of a food forest. This shows us developing the soil surface of the food forest. There were not as much shrubs or climbers in the community but after a few months, we will plant more climbers to complete the system.
Some professions we learned about today's activities are civil engineering, edible landscape designers, soil researchers, and government environmental
This is Drew teaching us about soil surface cuttings to develop food forests.
