GUILD DESIGN:
It's origin comes from the Native Americans who used corn, beans, and, squash as one of their guilds. First, the corn is planted. Then, the pole beans, who use the corn as their supports system. And lastly, the squash, who shades out all of the weeds.

In our guild, we planted Gliricidia as our canopy, cacao as our low tree layer, and other various types of plants and vegetables as the under layers.
Our guild design incorporates succession planning by planning our garden plants according to their needs, i.e planting Cacao next to Gliricidia because Cacao needs partial shade and Gliricidia needs full sun.
Succession planning is a planting method used to increase crop availability and make use of space.
